The impact of communications networks, terminals and usage on the environment is a subject of growing attention.

In 2022 digital technology is said to account for 3 to 4% of global greenhouse gas emissions and 2.5% of the national carbon footprint. ... but according to the preliminary report of the Senate's information mission on the environmental footprint of the digital sector, greenhouse gas emissions from the digital sector could increase significantly if nothing is done to reduce its footprint: +60% by 2040, or 6.7% of national GHG emissions.

It's time to act!
There are two priority areas for action:

  • Integrate digital learning and Green IT issues into school curricula. Raising awareness of the right reflexes to reduce environmental impact (choice of reconditioned equipment, durability of equipment, use of data, digital eco-gestures, etc.).
  • Train tech professionals in responsible digital practices.

The challenge is to ensure that the digital professions serve the ecological and societal transition.

This conference offers concrete actions to meet this challenge.
