The Earth from space. A vision to change the world

Jean-Pierre Goux - Sustainability conference

Jean-Pierre Goux

Founder and Chairman of the NGO OneHome, Jean-Pierre Goux wants to share with everyone the overview effect that transformed astronauts. A former mathematics researcher and Managing Director of Powernext, he is the author of two novels in the Siècle bleu saga.

When they saw the Earth from space for the first time, the astronauts were amazed and changed for life, an experience known as the Overview Effect. They discovered through their emotions that the Earth was fragile, finite and interconnected. Many say they fell in love with our planet.

Jean-Pierre Goux has spent twenty-five years recreating an experience to make people feel this transformation, using unique NASA images taken by a satellite imagined by Al Gore and located a million and a half kilometers away. In 2020, with the help of leading artists, designers, astronauts and philosophers, he launched the NGO OneHome, aiming to bring the overview effect to life for as many people as possible, to engage us in the ecological transition in a different way, through love for our planet. Based on this deep love for the Earth, Jean-Pierre Goux has also devised a process for engaging businesses in the ecological transition, using wonder and dreams as driving forces.

Through the story of his 25-year quest to produce the first images of the entire Earth from space, so that everyone can experience the overview effect, the aim of this talk is, after a brief reminder of the planetary issues of the day, to engage teams in the environmental transition by taking a step back and using creativity and wonder as drivers of transformation.

This conference emphasizes the importance of dreams and innovation for a successful ecological transition. To conclude, he takes the audience through the experience for 5 minutes, leading them to a deep collective sense of wonder.
